I love sharing things that moves me and this is no exception.
If you’ve been watching American Got Talent on TV or youtube recently, you’ve probably heard of the Nightbirde, her beautiful song and her inspiring story.
Nightbirde, who's real name is Jane Marczewski, is a 3 x times cancer survivor, diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2019.
I'm so inspired by her bravery and how she is so stoic in the face of her diagnosis.
You know what she said?
"2 percent (chance of survival) is not ZERO percent. 2 percent is something. 2 percent is amazing and I wish people knew that.”
She is definitely something amazing!
There's some similarity between cancer and infertility; the trauma of going in and out of clinics and treatments, facing unknowns and hurdles after hurdles. If you're lucky, you'll be okay after the 1st one. And if you are not, the emotional roller coaster just keeps on going unless you decide to say stop or the universe just takes the decision out of your hands.
I know of 5 people with cancer - My late auntie who passed away from breast cancer when I was a 17; an ex-colleague who had cervical cancer, but thankfully my other 3 friends are currently cancer-free.
I can't imagine what it feels like to have this potential death sentence on my head but I have felt hopeless, devastated, afraid, anxious, isolated, angry.
I’ve also have felt happy, joyful, positive, determined, motivated and loved.
When she sang -
"it's ok, it’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok
If you’re lost
We’re all a little lost
and it’s alright"
- having these words on repeat on my playlist is like a balm to my soul, and I can feel my heart, slowly healing and smiling.
The power of music.
The power of affirmations.
When things get rough, it can be so easy to go down the rabbit hole. And you telling me or me telling you - it will be okay, may not be okay, because things are not okay, and may never be okay.
But she says this, “You're so much more than the bad things that happen to you.” And “you can't wait until life isn't hard anymore, before you decide to be happy.”
That just hits me in the right spot. It’s okay to be sad and feel hopeless. Its okay to feel whatever feel whatever I’m feeling. Things may never be okay but it’s okay.
I’m okay.
I know this for a fact - we have the power to get ourselves of whatever hole we dug ourselves in. We have the power to choose to be happy, whenever we are ready. And you are ready now!
If you have not watched her audition on AGT, you can watch it on Youtube or listen to her on Spotify and can I make a request for you to buy her music on Apple?
Thank you Nightbirde for your beautiful song and for being you. You are a beacon of light to the strugglers, the dreamers and those who are braving infertility.
